Most Common Questions

Why do you recite ancient creeds and confessions in your service?

First, these ancient statements are beautifully written, capturing the essence of Christianity.  They help remind us of the essentials of the Christian faith.  Second, in a pop-culture world, it’s good to remember that the gospel message of grace, captured in these creeds, has been around a lot longer than our present age, and will be here long after we’re gone.

What is your style of music?

Our style, led by Steven Hansen, is an eclectic blend that embraces the sound and style of culture.  Steven seeks to lead us in worship and to this end, using a full range of musical arrangements.  Even in our songs, however, there is still a blending of the ancient/future in that Steven will often rearrange and use new music to classic hymns of the Christian faith.

Why do people come forward during your “time of prayer?”

Directly after our time of worship in song, we have couples from our church who come forward so that they can pray with anyone who has a need.  Since we believe that God is truly real, then it only makes sense to bring our needs to Him in full belief that He hears us.  Also, when we share our burdens with others, we help foster authentic community.  Real relationship is birthed out of sharing one another’s burdens.  For those who do not come forward, we simply ask that they would use this time for quiet reflection and personal prayer.  Also, we include an ancient prayer every week in our bulletin along with a list of prayer requests for everyone’s attention.

Do you require that I put money in the offering?

No.

Why do you take communion every week?

Communion, also referred to as the “table of the Lord,” is a center-piece of our worship experience.  It is at the table that we are reminded that we are more sinful than we can ever imagine, and yet more loved than we could possibly dream.  The crux of the gospel message is the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.  During communion, we remember the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross, we repent because He died for big sinners like us, and we rejoice in the forgiveness of our sins that is offered in Christ alone.

How long is the service?

Starting on September 11th, we moved to a two-service Sunday.  Both services are identical.  The first service begins at 8:45am and ends promptly at 10:15am.  The second service begins promptly at 10:45am and ends between 12:00pm and 12:15pm.

Is there something for the children on Sunday mornings?

Yes.  The children stay in the service and then are dismissed before the sermon.  Children ages 0-4 go to the nursery.  Children ages 5-10 go to the fellowship hall to take part in our Catechism I and II classes.

Do you offer any other services other than Sunday mornings?

Yes.  Every Wednesday evening during the Fall and Spring, we offer Bible classes for every age.  There is a dinner from 6:00 to 6:45 followed by the various classes.  We end promptly at 8:00 p.m.  Depending upon the Church calendar there are various other services and outreach events that are offered as well.
